Final Fantasy XII: You’ll have your bus pass when it’s released in Europe
Square Enix has pushed back the Japanese release of Final Fantasy XII to “sometime in the 2004/2005 financial year", from the original predicted release date of March next year.

No specific reason was given for the shift in the firm’s scheduling, other than the development team felt that more time is needed to properly complete the game.

At the long-awaited press conference held in Tokyo, Square Enix stated that it would fill the void with Dragon Quest V, the PlayStation 2 exclusive in Enix’s massive selling RPG series.

This news now surely dooms the prospect of a PAL release to who knows when. Given that there’s usually a wait of around 12 months, this could mean Final Fantasy XII not hitting our shores until well into 2006.

And as of this point in time, we have had no confirmation whatsoever of a European release of the online Final Fantasy XI, the PS2/PC cross-platform inaugural PlayOnline service title poised to fully roll out in the US in a matter of weeks.

And all this comes after Square promised both gamers and its own shareholders that it would be making concerted efforts to better maximise its presence in Europe.
