Namco’s ultraviolent Dead to Rights, the first ever game to receive an 18 certificate in Japan, is due to get a sequel, Namco revealed last night.

In development for Xbox and PlayStation 2, the GameCube will miss out this time around, unsurprisingly enough.

“We are extremely excited to announce the sequel to our highly successful Dead to Rights title," said Andre Emerson, senior producer at Namco. "With even more groundbreaking gameplay features, a gripping new hardboiled story and high cinematic production values, Dead to Rights II: Hell to Pay redefines the highly successful action-noir genre established by the original.”

Very good.

Due for release across the globe late next year, Dead to Rights II will feature an all-new driving and fighting mechanic, as well as being over twice the size of the original.

We’ll bring you the first screens as soon as they break.
