The Medal of Honour series has proved a joyous cash-cow for those business brains down at Electronic Arts. Pacific Assault is set to continue that tradition when it’s released in winter 2004. Everyone knew this was on the way, but EA have only just officially confirmed its existence. Not to be confused with MOH: Rising Sun (PS2), MOH: Pacific Assault will feature a spectacular rendition of the attack on Pearl Harbour. Just make sure that flashback-suffering grandpa Joe’s not in the room when the bombs start to drop.
With a capacious 32-player online mode, you’ll be able to kill people from all over the world in the usual ways, flexing an authentic arsenal of WW2 weaponry. This time, however, the FPS action will be generated by a new 3D engine. Most notably, this new approach means that the gameplay will affect the player’s character. Starting off as a naive recruit, the player will become increasingly gnarled and war-like as the game progresses. This will affect your accuracy, your authority over comrades and other aspects of the game.
The graphics and attention to detail are sure to be as impressive as previous MOH titles, but with the fresh twist of its re-jigged gameplay mechanics, this will surely generate quite a buzz on release.
