Alas, it’s been announced that HotGen Studios is closed for business. The news isn’t a much of a shock, as they have been on a downward slope for a few months. Their most recent (and possibly most expensive) hiccup was Batman: Dark Tomorrow, which was cursed by some truly abysmal reviews. These days, developers can make serious cash, but adversely, they can incur severe losses.
As a smaller company with fewer resources, HotGen fared reasonably well on smaller machines, with lesser technical demands. Some of their Game Boy Color/Advance games were pretty good, but the transition to next-gen consoles with Eggo Mania and Dark Tomorrow eventually scuppered HotGen completely. So, HotGen, thankyou for your handheld versions of Tony Hawk 3 and Mat Hoffman BMX – just part of a legacy they can be proud of.
