Kirby creator jumps ship

No more Super Smash Bros?

Posted by Staff
Masahiro Sakurai, creator of the Kirby and Super Smash Bros. games has announced his resignation from HAL Laboratories in Famitsu Weekly magazine. This certainly explains the absence of the Kirby GBA titles at this year’s soon-come ECTS. Sakurai hasn’t given any specific reasons explaining his move, but he says he intends to keep working in the industry.

HAL Laboratories will still be looking after Kirby and his pink cloud-related ways, but the future of Super Smash Bros. is now uncertain. Chances are, we won’t be seeing a new version. This may leave a fair few disgruntled fans, but Nintendo will surely cope with his departure: after all, they’ve still got Pokemon sitting at the top of the charts, and with Pokemon Box and Ruby and Sapphire Pinball on the horizon, it’s not all bad news.
