Guerilla's Killzone is already being heralded as the next big thing for the PS2. It's not out until Autumn 2004, and the hype's already begun. Sony and the Playstation-owning populace are touting this as the next definitive landmark in the FPS genre. The game's engine has been specifically designed to show off the PS2's full graphical potential, and about time too: the PS3 will probably have been announced by the time Killzone hits the shelves.
Sounding much like a Mel Gibson history lesson, Killzone is set in the future, but hints of battle scenes from WW2 and Vietnam. There's a squad-based focus, with each of your four soldiers practising different skills and abilities. Despite the teamwork element, Killzone is primarily intended as a single-player game. Although there will be the obligatory co-op, deathmatch and online modes, these features have taken a back seat to the one-player missions.
Expect to hear much, much more about this game closer to its release. In the meantime, have a look at these screenshots.
