Sega fortune rollercoaster still on rails

Oguchi to double sales, lead with strength

Sega fortune rollercoaster still on rails
Speaking to press in Tokyo overnight, Hisao Oguchi, Sega's brand-new president elect, made some bullish commitments to reviving the aged giant's fortunes in the coming years.

"Given our development resources and the expected launch of next-generation game consoles, I believe we can double our sales of packaged software from the current level of around 10 million units in about five years," pledged Oguchi. "I will establish strong leadership and reinforce our merchandising to bring new excitement to our customers," he continued.

It makes sense. Sega is a massive company with some blistering IP and a fanbase so loyal it beggars belief. There must be a level of frustration at Sega that in the "new big posh" games industry, it cannot find a foothold strong enough to support its weight.

Oguchi revealed that Sega had beaten its (admittedly small) sales target for Q1 this year by some 230,000, shifting a respectable 1.45 million units around the world.

Everything Sega, right here, as it breaks.
