The fledgling amalgamation of RPG giants that is Square Enix yesterday held a press briefing to announce its financial results and plans for the coming year.
First off, SE plans on netting a profit in its inaugral year, of some $89.5 million - not bad going we’re sure you’ll agree. This will be achieved, or so the firm says, with sales of over 11 million games around the world.
Then the big news, both good and bad. The good being that Final Fantasy XII, the offline true sequel in the series, will be released before April of next year, in Japan at least. Using the rule of Square thumb, if Enix’s influence has had no bounds, expect a PAL release in 2005.
The bad, if that weren’t bad enough, at least for us, is that the next Dragon Quest outing will not be released, even in Japan, before April 2004, meaning that you’ll probably have your PlayStation 3 pre-orders in before you get to buy it in Europe.
