Gran Turismo 4 In Pole Position

The gran-daddy of racing games revealed

The release of Gran Turismo 3 really emphasised the potential of the PS2 when it was still in its early days. Gran Turismo 4 looks set to demonstrate exactly how far the use of that technology can be stretched - it looks absolutely stunning. Developed with the same ludicrous attention to detail and fanatical devotion to real life car-physics as its predecessor, GT4 could very well be the finest racing experience ever made.

There's a choice of over 500 cars this time round. That's a lot of cars. We can't even think of that many different cars, let alone conceive the idea of simulating all their individual driving experiences. Once you've chosen your motor, you can then take it to race on one of over 200 tracks (based on the real-world). Some people complained that there were too few tracks in GT3 - it's doubtful they'll have the same concerns this time round.

Even the AI has also been vastly improved, although you might not notice that because GT4 is going online as well, providing infinite scope for competitive variety - Sunday drivers and drink-drivers alike. Quite simply, Sony and Polyphony have created the most impressive PS2 game...possibly ever.
