Sega Has Worms

Team17's legendary franchise is picked up by Sega

Worms 3D is one of Sega Europe's first third-party signings under their newly re-established publishing arm and clearly a sterling choice, as the Worms franchise has shifted millions since it's origins on the Amiga in 1995. Worms is highly entertaining and one of the few games you can introduce to a girlfriend without her getting stroppy because she can't understand it and thinks you don't love her anymore.

A spokesperson for Sega has this to say as the reasoning behind their choice...
"Brilliant gameplay and a strong brand Worms 3D has SEGA 'hit' written all over it. The creators at Team 17 have inspired us all with their passion and vision and we're delighted to be partnering with them in bringing Worms 3D to as wide a market as possible."

Worms was inspired by the ancient Amiga 'Scorched Earth' tank-battle game, where you'd simply pick an angle and power level on a destructable landscape and attempt to kill all others onscreen. Worms took this a step further and allowed movement, varied weaponry and the fully awesome "Ninja Rope", which upon mastering would grant the player oodles of respect from those he or she would later destroy.

Check out the screens and look forward to releases on Xbox, GC, PS2 and PC just in time for Christmas.

We'll be paying the Teamsters a visit at their Ossett HQ for an exclusive hands-on sometime next week - we'll bring you full details as soon as we can.
