Konami raises the stakes

Castlevania on PS2 details!

One of the greatest franchises to ever stir gaming loins - Konami's Castlevania - has finally been revealed in a well-known U.S publication.

The visuals show a clear choice of a full 3D engine and looks more like Rygar-meets-Devil May Cry, as opposed to a follow up to the beautiful and sorely underrated Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Still, no bad thing.

The decision to go for the full three dimensions is a surprise to many of us, not least because the fully 3D N64 update was considered by many as a failed entry to the franchise, and not a great game in its own right either.

There was also a Dreamcast version in the works, but the project was canned - possibly due to signs that Sega's console was on its way out. This leads us to wonder whether this is an updated version of the game we never saw; in the Dreamcast screens that were released, the main protagonist was wearing a very similar costume and looked pretty much the same.

The piece also reveals that Konami has taken provisions to place the key members of past Castlevania hits on the project and the project will be produced by Koji Igarashi - a recurring member on the Castlevania development teams.

The game will be playable at the E3 trade show in May and we very much look forward to telling you more about it when we get our sweaty hands all over it.
