Sega saga takes a new twist
More rumours are circulating today concerning the financial future of Sega, now suggesting the involvement of fellow Japanese gaming legend Namco. Despite the fact that the Sonic creators are widely believed to be looking towards a merger with Sammy, a Namco spokesman has announced that they have also approached Sega, but details have not yet been worked out.

If realised, the merger would form the creation of Japan's largest games publisher, with estimated annual sales of 350 billion yen (£1.85 billion). It would also go towards ensuring some stability for the two parties in the increasingly competitive yet diminishing Japanese games market that has also recently witnessed a similar move by the RPG-meisters Square and Enix.

"We are certain that consolidation of the two companies' operations in every business field would bring about maximum synergy effects," Namco said in a statement.

We'll keep our ears to the ground and try and bring you more concrete details when they emerge.
