In the latest issue of weekly Famitsu, Sega Overworks president Noriyoshi Ohba said that development of the next Shinobi game has begun in earnest, again for the PlayStation 2.
Although this comes as no great surprise, what has shocked Sega’s loyal fanbase is Ohba’s statement that the new game will be “greatly different” from the last PS2 Shinobi outing. Although no one can deny the appeal of PlayStation 2 Shinobi, many felt that it lacked the essence of the original. The pace is considerably slower, and although variable, doesn’t have that consistent, fair and controlled air the 1986 coin-op original oozed.
Perhaps an epic 2D instalment is in the works? We can only dream…
