Although it’s not been confirmed for a European release at the time of writing, we feel that we have to tell you about Sony’s Amplitude for PlayStation 2, the sequel to 2002’s Frequency, its online capabilities, and the famous names who are contributing to the soundtrack – an impressive list of names as you will see.
Developed by Harmonix, the team responsible for the aforementioned Frequency, Amplitude lets players become a virtual DJ of sorts, mixing and jamming along to 25+ audio tracks, on or offline. Using the PS2’s online capabilities through the Network Adaptor, Amplitude allows budding mixers to challenge like-minded individuals online in Multiplayer, Remix and Duel modes. Sounds like a recipe for cacophony to us, but we shall reserve judgement until we get a hands-on with Amplitude, most likely to happen at LA’s E3 this May. That is, unless, SCEE see fit to confirm a Euro release…oh, go on!

Bowie, whose ‘Everyone Says ‘Hi’’ features in Amplitude, and usually one of the most eloquent and articulate of rock stars, cannot be faulted for his enthusiasm: "Amplitude rocks – it's totally and completely addicting (sic)". On a more corporate quote note, Ami Blaire, director of product marketing, SCEA, commented, "The addition of Pink, BT, Manchild, Slipknot, and Run DMC's classic hit "King of Rock”, performed by The X-ecutioners, rounds out our Amplitude music roster and offers music enthusiasts everywhere some great foot-stomping, heart-pumping tracks. By having custom remixes such as ‘King of Rock’, we hope to attract new rap and rock fans, as well as establish Amplitude as a unique alternative to radio for an enhanced gaming and music experience."
