Grand Theft Auto cash-in begins in earnest
Sci, the firm behind the butchering of classic film-to-game The Italian Job, has announced it has bought the rights to Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs movie.

“Reservoir Dogs will be developed by SCi on Sony PlayStation 2 and Microsoft Xbox," stated the firm. "The game design will remain faithful to the original movie with gamers able to play all of the key characters, including the infamous Mr Blonde. As well as a significant amount of combat action, the game will also include strong driving sequences.”

We might be a bunch of old cynics, but this seems to be formulaic game release strategy at its most obvious. Of course, game companies always have, and always will, follow what succeeds commercially. Electronic Arts make billions out of licensed games. Take 2 dominated the charts with its 3D Grand Theft Auto incarnations. So, if you license a franchise, and add mission-based, violence-packed, driving gameplay, nothing, in theory, can go wrong.

Should make for an interesting launch party at the very least…
