As part of a “reorganisational” process, Sega of America has taken the shock decision to axe 90 staff members, in the biggest cull since the demise of the Dreamcast.
Apparently part of an ongoing restructure in preparation for the planned merger with Sammy, the scale of cuts has rocked the games industry.
What’s more, this move has naturally brought speculation that Sega Europe’s proposed re-emergence may be thrown into jeopardy, following the announcement that a full scale European arm would be installed in the first half of this year. There was no comment from the European office today, though no one seemed particularly concerned, hinting that Sega of Japan had given them the all-clear.
