Square and Enix have planted seed and watered, revealing the full skinny on their finalised plans to merge. The two companies will become one on April 1 this year, scotching rumours that due to unresolved share-disputes, the date would be pushed back.

The final name for the firm, following much debate, is Square Enix Co. Ltd and will be based out of two offices in Tokyo.

What’s more, Square Enix is poised to ditch Electronic Arts, its long-standing publishing and distribution partner. However, rumour emerging today suggests that EA is actively courting further involvement.

“As Square and Enix begin the worldwide implementation of the merger, our goals for the North American market will shift to include not only increasing our market share for our franchises, but also expanding the role-playing game market in North America," said Yoichi Wada. "We are currently evaluating the best strategy to accomplish these goals and look forward to growing our business as a new company. We have enjoyed a very successful partnership with Electronic Arts over the past five years and we are currently exploring opportunities for a new relationship.”

Enix Boss Keiji Honda was equally excited. "We are looking forward to this new structure in North America," he said. "Together, Square and Enix will deliver a gaming experience that everyone will enjoy. We are committed to developing and marketing innovative, creative and original titles. We hope to accomplish our goals by providing quality role-playing games to gamers in North America."

It was also confirmed that Wada would head up the new firm.

Expect something juicy on the Square Enix MMORPG confirmed as in the works, at this year’s E3.
