Retailers throughout Japan are confirming the same thing this morning: That they have completely sold out of Nintendo's latest portable offering, the Game Boy Advance SP.

It would appear that the Final Fantasy Tactics Advance bundle was most popular, selling out before lunch time in the country, with silver models selling out next.

Massive queues were witnessed in the capitals gaming district Akihabara, in some of the most frenzied "Japanese gamers go wild to get something on day one" scenes witnessed in some time.

We can only comment that this was to be expected. We've spent some considerable time with the SP and it is one of the most appealing gadgetrons we have ever come across. Now it's just a matter of waiting a month to get one down the local shops…
