Western Pokemon campaign initiated
Limited edition coin planned for US as behemoth franchise gears up for second phase of world domination.
Nintendo of America has revealed plans to release a commemorative limited edition coin with all pre-orders of the upcoming Game Boy Advance titles Pokemon Ruby and Pokemon Sapphire.
The coin will be holographic and will depict one of the new Pokemon included in the new duo.
“The phenomenal sales of Pokemon Ruby and Pokemon Sapphire in Japan illustrate the continuing popularity of the Pokemon franchise," said George Harrison, senior vice president, marketing and corporate communications, Nintendo of America. "After five years, kids are watching the Pokemon cartoon in record numbers, buying the video games, and collecting Pokemon trading cards, and we have every reason to believe these two Pokemon games will be as huge in North America as they are in Japan."
You may remember that Pokemon ruled the whole world for a brief spell towards the end of the last millennium. It will be interesting to see if the franchise has the same pull it did way back then.
