Price cuts in the offing?

All-formats retail restructure looms.

According to industry gossip in the UK today, all three platform manufacturers are poised to make pre-summer retail adjustments, reducing the prices of their respective hardware across the UK.

Sony is expected to lead the way, snipping up to £40 form the asking price of the PlayStation 2, with a follow-up from Microsoft, expected to be in terms of a price-snip and bundle offer.

This leaves Nintendo, a firm never over eager to undermine the perceived value of its product line. Thinking at present is that it will power on with its budget offering, and replace the free game promotion with a price cut to fan the flames of summer.

This, dear friends, is a great time to be a gamer in the UK. It’s cheaper than ever and there are better games, and more of them that one dared hope. Let’s just hope that killer apps such as future Final Fantasy games, and Nintendo’s GameCube line-up get here before we explode.
