Yu Suzuki, the fabled boss of Sega’s AM2 studio, has stated that Virtua Fighter Quest will be released at some point this year, ending speculation that the game might be in danger of being canned.
He said that, as well as the team’s other efforts, focus must now be put upon Virtua Fighter Quest, the team’s flagship GameCube RPG.
The game will be a detailed RPG, perhaps even online, featuring locations and characters from Virtua Fighter, Suzuki’s seminal 3D fighter. According to our now famous Sega spies, some form of data share will occur between VF Quest and the hotly anticipated Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution. As yet, VF4 Evo hasn’t been given an official home console platform. Does this mean that a GameCube version is on the cards?
Furthermore, Sega has gone on record to say that its key franchises must be platform agnostic if they are to make money. Virtua Fighter was named specifically as part of this plan.
Stay tuned for updates on all these matters, as we get them.
