Mario Advance 4 gets the silence treatment
At yesterday’s Nintendo press event, we asked a very important question: What is Mario Advance 4? Our polite enquiry was directed to Nintendo Europe MD David Gosen, having spotted the game on Nintendo’s 2003 release schedule.

His reaction was a little strange, and he checked with a colleague if information vetoes had been lifted by the Japanese. He said that the game was still top secret. We pressed the matter, asking if it would be an original title. Again we were denied. We asked if Miyamoto would be overseeing its development. Again, nothing.

This was quite irritating, but it all adds to the general excitement, so we didn’t mind too much. However, it does still pose the monumental question: What is Mario Advance 4?

Having put the question to our panel of assorted videogame fetishists, some clear front-runners emerged. A remake of the acclaimed Super Mario Bros 3 was tabled by many, probably with a graphical makeover of sorts, and perhaps with some original content. Others spoke of Yoshi’s Story being translated for GBA, others of an all-new Miyamoto 2D platform epic. Feel the excitement!

Even better, the game is likely to come with another Mario Brother re-release. Urgh.

We’ll keep on pressing and let you know just as soon as we can.
