Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has celebrated PlayStation 2 hardware sales of over three million, only months after the two million milestone was passed.
At a celebratory event in East London yesterday, group director Chris Deering told us, “People have found the PlayStation 2 irresistible, not just in the UK but everywhere, and to have put out three million machines here in this time is amazing. It’s anyone’s guess what the figures will look like after Christmas. This year’s [festive period] is going to be crazy, not like one seen before.”
When asked about the competition, Deering simply said, “It was getting lonely on our own. Having decent competition is essential.” Deering was then seen to flee from a deranged man who shares a name with a famous cowboy.
We will of course keep you updated with how the console war pans out over the Christmas period, which is, without question, the most important ever in the industry.
