Exclusive: Planet Harriers disappears
We can exclusively reveal that Planet Harriers has slipped almost out of view at Sega’s Japanese HQ.

The remake of Yu Suzuki’s classic pseudo 3D shooter was unveiled in a blaze of glory at the JAMMA Show in Tokyo way back in 2000, where a Dreamcast version was promised. Since then, nothing has been seen of the game.

The arcade version, housed in an impressive two-player, sit-down cabinet was released in Japan and the US, with some stock filtering down to European shores. It was thought that, following the demise of the Dreamcast, a PlayStation 2, GameCube or Xbox version would be announced, but to date, this hasn’t happened.

Our insiders at Sega say that there is no version in development at Toshihiro Nagoshi’s Amusement Vision studio and the Dreamcast version will not be released. It was thought for some time that Sega would release the Dreamcast game as part of its ongoing DC rehash series, a batch of re-releases described as a “thank you to the Dreamcast fans.”

Whatever happens, you’ll find out here first.
