ATI Technologies has announced that the 12 millionth Flipper processor has been shipped off to Nintendo, meaning that, with the use of simple mathematics, 12 million GameCubes now exist!

Manufactured by the low fail-rate masters at NEC, the Flipper makes up the graphical heart of the GameCube and has received wide acclaim for its price, size and power.

And now, some corporate quotes!

“ATI's partnership and technological expertise with ATI's Flipper chip for Nintendo GameCube has enabled game developers to concentrate on entertaining storylines coupled with a wide array of exciting graphic elements to enhance the game experience," said Genyo Takeda, Senior Managing Director of Integrated Research and Development, Nintendo Japan. "Best selling Nintendo GameCube titles such as Super Mario Sunshine and Super Smash Bros. Melee, and the eagerly anticipated Metroid Prime and The Legend of Zelda, all gain superior entertainment value based on ATI's visual performance expertise in their Flipper chip."

Brilliant!

But wait, there’s more…

“ATI is very proud to be a key partner with Nintendo for Nintendo GameCube. The 12 millionth shipment of ATI's Flipper chip for the critically acclaimed Nintendo GameCube is a prime example of ATI's dedicated commitment to our customers and to the consumer electronics market," said Dave Orton, President and Chief Operating Officer, ATI Technologies Inc. "Based on our leadership expertise in graphics development, our goal at ATI is to focus our resources to ensure success for all of our partners. The fact that the 12 millionth Flipper chip has shipped is testament to Nintendo GameCube's success in the marketplace.”

Sorry to subject you all to that. Good headline though, eh…?
