Link-cables at the ready, kids.

Nintendo of Japan has revealed that the next instalment of the Pokemon series will support up to four players at a time, via the link cable, a first for the multi-million selling monster fighting RPG.

Players will be able to battle two Pokemon in a team simultaneously. This means that up to eight cute little monsters will be on screens at any one time.

In other news, the Pokedex will be replaced by a PDA-style device that will incorporate the functionality of the original ‘dex and combine it with the radio and mobile phone features seen in Pokemon Gold, Silver and Crystal.

Three new Pokemon were also revealed. These are Achamo, a bird-type Pokemon, Kimori, a frog-type Pokemon and Mizugorou, a water-dwelling Pokemon. You will be given a choice of these three when embarking on your new Poke-quest.
