Industry veteran branches out.

Jim Scott, Managing Director at Play X Europe, today exclusively announces that his Play X Europe Group is expanding, with a new venture into the publishing world with the launch of a new label – Oxygen Interactive.

Scott, a veteran of the Industry since the late 80’s, first marked the games industry with his Beyond Belief label back in 1988, developing and publishing games for the Spectrum and Commodore. Games in the catalogue included Jimmy’s Soccer Manager and Biff. Scott’s business expanded into distribution and he now heads the largest independent distributor in the UK. In 2000, he launched Play X Group, which last year turned over revenue in excess of £10 million, a growth of 50% on the previous year. A further growth of 40% is predicted for next 12 months.

The new label, Oxygen Interactive is being positioned to make a serious challenge to PC market publishers such as JoWood and CDV. Once the label has made a serious challenge to the PC market, Oxygen will assess the risk of entering into the console market.

Jim Scott commented: “The timing was right, it felt like a natural progression to venture into publishing. With the industry contacts that I have gained over my years in the business, combined with knowledge and experience of the market it seemed the obvious way to steer the company.”

Oxygen Interactive is already boasting a number of AAA titles in its release schedule and is anxious to sign up further titles for pan-European release.

Oxygen’s launch title is to be released in the key Christmas period and Scott is confident that it will make a serious challenge to the chart positions.

Jim Scott comments: “We are delighted to have such a strong line up of titles to launch Oxygen. We knew that it was critical to impress from the offset and we have guaranteed this with our launch title which we will announce within the next few weeks.”

Scott has been busy recruiting for the new label and appointments include Vickie Peggs, who has previously worked at Akaei, Empire Interactive and Wide Games.

Key partnerships are already in place to support the European arm and further expansion deals are already on the table.

Scott, concludes: “There is a real place In the European market for Oxygen Interactive. With our business model in place, we look forward to making the same advances that the Play X Group has made in recent years.”
