Xbox live status confirmed for Amusement Vision’s latest title
Sega has released the first snippets of information from Spikeout Extreme, Toshihiro Nagoshi’s latest incarnation of the online arcade uber-fighter.

First released as an ambitious online arcade game, and later for the Dreamcast, Spikeout is a free-roaming co-operative fighter of epic proportions. The game has now been given the green light by Sega to move over onto the Xbox, along with its broadband-happy Xbox Live gaming portal.

The new version will have a help system to keep you in touch with other players you are teamed up with. This will flash alerts onto the screen when your partner is in trouble, has low health or is being overpowered.

In his regular Edge AV Out column, Nagoshi made some amusing comments about his decision to bring a game to the Xbox. “After I announced this title, many people asked me why I was doing it and even if I was feeling okay. I was left feeling quite disturbed. I mean I don’t remember saying that I would never develop on Xbox. Did I? Okay, I did the GameCube launch with Monkey Ball and later released Virtua Striker 2002. I also announced the development of F-Zero in co-operation with Nintendo and even revealed Super Monkey Ball 2, again all on GameCube. But that does not mean that I will work exclusively for Nintendo. The same applies for any eventual implementation on PlayStation 2. If there is a reason for me to work on this platform, I will without hesitation.”

You gotta love him, eh?

Expect to see Spikeout Extreme at some point next year.
