Charles Bellfield, Sega’s Vice President, has stated that Sega is furthering its push into the software sector with a view to acquiring a selection of existing games publishers and developers.
Though nothing specific was mentioned by Bellfield, he said, “We continue to look at opportunities both vertically and horizontally with publishers and developers in the U.S. and Europe.” He also said that some of the more interesting opportunities are to be found within some of the smaller development and publishing outfits.
It is well known that Sega has already signed at least one as yet unannounced game from Seamus Blackley’s fledgling game-funding outfit.
We’ll monitor this and keep you updated. One thing is for sure though: more Sega involvement in the games industry will result in better games reaching the mass-market. And we can’t wait.
