Square has completed the first ever patch released for a console game, in updating the client software for Final Fantasy XI. Players in Japan must download the new bug-fix version from PlayOnline and install it onto the PlayStation 2 hard drive. Spooky huh?
The new software fixes or modifies some of the aspects of FFXI that have either failed, or just annoyed gamers in the months since the game was released.
The main fixes included in the update are unlimited auctions, meaning that auctions can now take place at any point in the game, and the locations of the bigger, nastier monsters is now random.
Annoyingly, there is still no word on when Square and Sony plan to release the game outside of Japan. As soon as there is, we’ll let you know.
