More PlayStation 3 talk from Japan
Kyodo, Japan’s leading news agency, has released details of Sony Computer Entertainment’s next major hardware release, namely the PlayStation 3.

According to the report, that Kyodo says comes from Sony insiders, the new machine will be 200 times faster than the PlayStation 2, and will be co-developed between Sony, IBM and Toshiba at a cost of $400 million.

Apparently, the new console will hit the market in 2005 when fibre-optic networking is more commonplace. The report also said that the machine might be purely online, with no disc drive for DVD. Instead, all games delivery would be online, cutting boxed games sold at retail out of the loop.

More as it breaks.
