Midway games has announced that it has acquired the rights to some of DC Comics’ hottest properties, namely the Justice League of America (JLA), a series that involves Batman, Superman, The Flash, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, Hawkgirl and Aquaman. JLA enemies include The Joker, Lex Luthor, Mongul, Cheetah, Solomon Grundy, The Shade, Star Sapphire, Copperhead, Gorilla Grodd and Felix Faust.
It is widely expected that Midway will make use of Activision’s proven business model for such characters, creating a plethora of 3D action titles and other, more niche games, such as beat-em-ups and racers, as well as cameo appearances in non-related products.
"DC Comics' compelling characters and storylines create unique properties that are ideal for the video game experience," said Helene Sheeler, VP of Midway’s marketing. "We look forward to bringing these iconic characters to gamers everywhere."
Oh, the quotes! But wait, there’s more…
"The video game platforms are a perfect fit for the ever-popular Justice League super heroes as their interactive adventures will reach new and existing fans," said Philippe Erwin, VP for interactive entertainment at Warner. "We look forward to working with Midway's experienced developers to create engaging and entertaining games."
Expect to see something a little more enlightening at E3 this May.
