Sony's launch of PS4 in the North American markets was a success that appears to have been emulated in the UK and Europe last night and one reason for that might be the clear message that Sony has sent out about ownership of games to gamers. This certainly seems to have been in the mind of Andrew House, CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment who appears 'genuinely' confused that Microsoft appears to have messed up.
"“The one thing that surprised me most is that we were required to make such a clear statement that we were going to maintain status quo in areas that we took for granted,” House told
MCV in reference to the Sony E3 announcement that gamers "would be able to trade-in games, share them with friends and not have to log into the internet daily. That wasn’t something dictated by us, that was by the moves the competition was making."
As for Xbox One and Microsoft's tighter control and confused messaging on the subject: "That remains the largest surprise for me – how visceral that reaction was from consumers. But the fact that we had to put a stake in the ground, in an area that we felt was just common sense, still has me quite literally scratching my head.”
