Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Revealed for GameCube!

This could be the Mothera of all beat 'em ups! (Groan!).

Pipeworks Software has released the first screens of what has to be seen as a dream game. That game bears the title Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee. What more do you need to know?

This will be a proper beat-em-up, with each character gifted with the ability to punch, kick, jump and hurl projectiles, and a fully robust combo system has been included to engender support from the fighting hardcore. Speaking of characters, Godzilla 2000 and Godzilla 1990, Mecha-Godzilla, King Ghidora and Mothera will all be included as well as many more!

“Gamers love Godzilla - the gigantic size, range of attacks and interesting gameplay elements enabled by super powered creatures,” said Larry Sparks, VP European Marketing for Infogrames. “Working closely with Toho Co., Ltd. and Sony Pictures Consumer Products has allowed us to create a one-of-a-kind gaming experience for GameCube owners while staying true to the movies for the dedicated Godzilla fanbase. With the power of Nintendo’s next generation console, we can create detailed worlds and accurate creatures that do justice to this classic franchise.”

Though we welcome this game with open arms, it does bear an uncanny resemblance to the Neo Geo title King of the Monsters, released in the arcades and for the Neo home machine. The press release detailing the game even contains the following line. “A fighting game with a unique twist, the game challenges players to punch, kick, stomp, throw and blast each other to claim the title of King of the Monsters.” Dishonour? No chance. The Neo Geo was rubbish. This looks fantastic! The title alone is enough for us!

Expect to see Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee hit the shelves before this Christmas.
