Development of Need for Speed, which has bounced between Criterion (Yay) to Black Box (Slightly yes, Yay) is apparently now resting entirely with Rivals dev, Swedish studio Ghost Games.
Studio head Marcus Nilsson has explained that, "Need For Speed needs continuity... When you go from a Shift
experience to The Run
experience to a Hot Pursuit
experience, then it loses credibility."
Nilsson was speaking with Videogamer
when he made the pronouncement.
"It cannot go from black to white between Black Box and Criterion, and that's why we're now thinking about the brand as Ghost owns it. We're going to build it, we're going to build it on Frostbite 3, [and] people will see something they are familiar with every time we release the game.
For its part, beloved (by us) dev crew Criterion will be working on a new project while simultaneously helping out with NFS
