The inevitable has been confirmed - and that confirmation pulled - that Microsoft is to kill Games for Windows Live. There was even a date.
The news came as part of an Age of Empires Online update and went as far as to give consumers a decent amount of time to get used to the idea that either Microsoft is brining something new to the party or everybody is heading to Steam and Steamworks.
"Games for Windows Live will be discontinued on July 1, 2014. Although it is available through Steam, Age of Empires Online requires features of the Games for Windows Live service. You can continue to enjoy all the features of Age of Empires Online as the service will remain 100% operational until July 1, 2014 when the server will shut down," said the update.
It follows yesterday's news that Warners is moving its PC gamers to Steamworks for Batman: Arkham Origins.Batman: Arkham Origins.
