The Last of Us is a PS3 exclusive from Naughty Dog. You knew that. It's also a game that is proving that single-platform titles might still have some life left in them even in the face of mobile gaming, the resurgence of PCs and even social gaming.

The title, which has topped the UK games charts for four straight weeks, has sold in excess of 3.4 million units as of July 3rd in both physical and download forms according to Sony's own data. Given that is launched on June 14th, that's not bad going at all. But does it merely indicate the last in a dying breed of one-machine titles?

No it isn't, unsurprisingly, according to Sony. An official press release on the numbers sees Shuhei Yoshida, President of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios stating that:

"These sales figures are a testament to the blockbuster quality of The Last of Us. The teams at Naughty Dog are true visionaries and their storytelling capabilities are second to none, this title is an undisputed demonstration of that. SCE continues to be committed to delivering unique gameplay experiences that redefine the interactive entertainment industry and The Last of Us is a perfect example."

That level of commitment to spouting totally meaningless bullshit in loads of rote terms is truly uninspring, unlike the game itself which we love.
