Although games that are released on multiple platforms are all fairly similar when loaded up, the architecture behind them is very different, and each platform needs personal attention.Bethesda struggled when it came to making
Fallout 3 and
Skyrim work on the PS3, and even now, they're still finding cross-platform work a "nightmare."
According to Bethesda vice-president Pete Hines
in a chat with OXM at E3, "It's really not easy, but it's certainly much easier," with reference to multiplatform development.
He continues with "I'm not trying to insult Sony or Microsoft, but they're high-end PCs, the way they're architectured. Though they're still in development, they're not done, they're much easier to develop for."
It's become easier for developers to focus on multiple platforms, but there are still some hiccups. "They don't all play with each other. PC and Mac play together, but Xbox One is its own thing and PS4 is its own thing. The whole cross-platform thing is just a nightmare,"
We've all heard the hype behind
The Elder Scrolls Online, and if not?
Here's a video - it's a big job, so we can't really blame Bethesda for having slight issues with it, can we?
