Electronic Arts and Maxis, probably sensing that another wave of consumer fury probably isn't really what it needs right now, has moved to officially declare its commitment to provide support for online-only game Darkspore.Yesterday,
the publisher apparently made it clear that it has no intention of fixing a number of server outages resulting in connection troubles for paying customers. The reason being that the game was so old that it was, "for almost all intents and purposes an abandoned title". Today, EA is saying that it made no such formal statement.
A spokesperson for the company told
Kotaku that the initial comments, posted on the official Darkspore forum, was made by an individual moderator not employed by EA, and does not reflect the company's intentions to support the game.
"Maxis continues to support
Darkspore and its servers. We recently resolved a problem where players were having issues connecting to the game," the spokesperson said. "Steam is in the process of relisting
Darkspore on their service. It should be returning in the near future."
