Electronic Arts' EVP in charge of Origin, Patrick Wilson, has said he wants to take the focus of his company's Origin platform away from transactions and place it on gamers.
Speaking to Games Industry, Wilson said his company plans to "re-establish Origin as a service to gamers, not as a means to drive transactions."
Wilson said that in the early days Origin was supposed to make accessing and updating games, as well as connecting with other players, easier "across all platforms, not just PC." He acknowledged, however, that "Over the years ... there've been some permutations of that vision that have manifested as part of Origin".
Wilson said that EA understands this and that "we're looking at more changes that we'll talk about over the coming months that really are gamer-focused."
"When I speak to the team now," he said, "they're very energized about this concept of 'Listen, the transaction is really a very small part of the experience; that's really not what this is about'".
