Nintendo has reportedly said that it will update its 3DS friend-gathering game, Tomodachi Collection, in order to patch a "bug" that allowed male Mii characters to engage in same-sex relationships. The quirk was discovered last week, and generated a large amount of positive feedback from gay gamers in Japan, reports
Kotaku. In the game, two male Miis could marry one another, as well as have and raise children. Female same-sex marriage is not permitted.
That last sentence right there adds weight to the idea that the ability to have gay relationships in
Tomodachi Collection was not originally intended. Although Nintendo has not formally released a statement to the press, Kotaku cites
a Japanese Twitter user that claims Nintendo calls the situation "a bug... the game needs to be patched."
