CCP's free-to-play shooter, Dust 514, has finally got a release date on PlayStation 3. It has been in Open Beta for some time, but it will officially launch as a free download on May 14.
The game brings console players into the extended universe of PC MMO EVE Online. Those participating in multiplayer deathmatches on Dust 514 with their PS3 systems will be able to collaborate with PC users on EVE, with the latter sending dropships and other tactical bonuses to help the former. Battles that take place on Dust 514 will have an impact on EVE Online's political ecosystem, too.
"Reaching this point has required many years, hundreds of CCP employees, and the engagement of millions of players who contributed fantastic feedback during the beta process,” said Hilmar Veigar Pétursson, CCP's CEO.
"Now we start the real journey, which, decades from now, we will look back on with astonishment at all we accomplished. The EVE Universe will outlive us all." Dust 514 will be supported by microtransactions, and CCP has pledged to continue updates for the game for several years.
