It was only a matter of time before the biggest game franchise on the planet started opening up to the idea of microtransactions. It's the fashion! Activision is set to add optional customisation purchases to Call of Duty: Black Ops II following a title update tomorrow.
In a blog post by Dan Amrich, the Xbox 360 version will see "new, optional in-game purchases called Micro Items" added to the game which will offer customisations and media enhancements.
"This content contains either personal customizations or nice little luxuries that I've seen players request. None of them affect gameplay, but they are small, specific ways to enhance your online experience," Amrich wrote.
Among the items offered are 'Personalisation Packs', including unique weapon camo, three targeting reticles, and a custom player Calling Card; 'Flags of the World Calling Cards Packs' including "national flag-themed Calling Cards from countries around the world; and a one-time 'Extra Slots Pack' purchase offering 10 additional Create-A-Class slots and extra space for media storage.
Personalisation Packs will cost 160 Microsoft Points each, Flags of the World Calling Cards Packs will cost 80 MSP each and the Extra Slots Pack will set you back 160 MSP.
Black Ops II Season Pass map Nuketown Zombies and Nuketown 2025 will also be released for purchase, the former for 400 MSP and the latter for free.
"At the end of the day, all of these items are completely optional, and were created for players who've asked for more customization options," said Amrich.
Microtransactions for other platforms will be made available at a later date.
