Sony Claims Top UK Console Manufacturer Position
Comes straight out and says it, but where are the figures?
An image we found lying about and didn't bother questioning.
A recent interview with Sony Computer Entertainment Europe's UK MD Fergal Gara, marketing director Murray Pannell and commercial director Alex Coultate has resulted in Sony Computer Entertainment Europe ensuring everybody that everything is A-OK.
We say "interview", and it did comprise both question and answer. One of the questions was, "So how would you evaluate 2012 for SCE UK?" The answer:
"We are proud to go from the No.3 to No.1 console manufacturer, in a difficult market. But it doesn’t mean we achieved everything we wanted. We asserted ourselves on the handheld market and claimed over a third of that."
We're not sure what "No.1 console manufacturer" means in this sense. We reckon it means, "We manufactured more consoles than Microsoft and Nintendo in the UK."
There was no clarification. We then looked around a bit and decided to visit one of the Sony console manufacturing plants in the UK...
There aren't any. Maybe SCEE means "Top console sales in the UK"... we're looking for figures. It does appear that PS3 lead European console *sales* in *Europe* in 2012... that's according to Nintendo.
