SEGA could be making a play for Relic Entertainment and the Warhammer 40K franchise in today's THQ asset sale, if whispers darting around the internet are to be believed.A
Relic employee hinted that SEGA is among a list of companies looking to purchase THQ assets and acquire the studio. Indie developer Tim Lewinson also
tweeted, "Hearing that the high bid for @Relicgames at the @THQ IP auction is *drumroll* @Sega."
Relic is, of course, known for
Company of Heroes and
Dawn of War, the latter of which is based on the
Warhammer 40K license. SEGA has already announced a multi-year
Warhammer (fantasy) deal for its RTS studio Creative Assembly - if the rumours are true and the sale comes to pass, SEGA will be the home for
Warhammer fans.
All of this is coming from people who claim to be close enough to the proceedings to know the finer details of the upcoming sale, which will be announced in a hearing at 5pm UK time.
Other companies said to be interested in THQ assets include Koch Media for Volition (
Saints Row) and Ubisoft for the
South Park: The Stick of Truth game.
