Curt Schilling Auctioning Memorabilia to Pay for Kingdoms of Amalur Flop
How did it all come to this? US baseball star-turned video game developer Curt Schilling is now looking to auction some of his famous sports gear to pay off the debts he amassed with 38 Studios and Big Huge Games' RPG flop, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.

The list of memorabilia on sale includes his very own blood-stained sock. Yep. A sock. Not just any old sock, though - one that is reportedly worth at least $100,000; it's the one Schilling wore during the 2004 World Series.

Even at that price, the former sportsman will need a lot more to meet his financial targets. He invested a colossal $50 million in his games outfit, 38 Studios, on top of personally guaranteed loans. A lot of money also came from the Rhode Island taxpayer, as it was revealed that the studio received some $75 million in government funds following the failure of Kingdoms of Amalur.

Bidding will begin on February 4, with live bidding to take place on February 23.

it's a shame the game was a flop, it's not like it's a bad game

@Daz, completely on the same page mate. Plus this made me exited about a future of MMORPG's with a decent combat mechanic.

I thought that the whole flop wasn't the game but the guy overstretched his resources too fast. The game sold well enough. Yet without properly using his funds and resources, he pushed the next game they planned and had no way to make back the money they were wasting out. Generally Amalur was not the fault of the bakruptcy, it was the guy who kept pushing more game ideas before trying to make profit.

The game was not a flop, the last figures that i read said it sold around 1.5 million copies, which for an unknown RPG series like KoA was is fairly fantastic, the problem was that Curt Schilling for what ever reason ran the company in such a way that they needed to sell 3 million copies of KoA to be able to meet the first repayment of the $75 million loan Rhode island gave him - which was a fairly stupid thing to bet on (even though KoA is a fantastic game and i urge anyone who likes RPGs to buy it) overall it is a shame because they did apparently have some more DLC planned for KoA which i assume will never be finished now.
