First Person Shooter MMO Dust 514 will reach Open Beta on January 22 for PlayStation 3. CCP Games revealed that the announcement is tied to the studio's latest technological milestone: the merging of the console-based Dust 514 experience into the massive PC EVE Online Universe.
Such a merger is nothing to be sniffed at - EVE Online has expanded exponentially since its original launch on PCs back in 2003. The feat means that, for the first time, two separate game genres on two previously-incompatible platforms have been linked into one persistent online universe.
CCP CEO Hilmar Veigar Pétursson said, “The launch of the Dust 514 Open Beta is another step towards our long-term vision for CCP and EVE,” said. “But this is just the beginning. As we have done with EVE Online, in the coming weeks, and for years to come, we will continually improve upon and add to the Dust 514 experience, as well as add deeper integration between the two games and their communities.”
CCP confirmed that Dust 514's Open Beta will be free to download and play for all PS3 users.
