Ubisoft's Facebook tie-in Ghost Recon Commander has - at the time of writing - 34,501 'Likes' and no future.
In a social media irony, project lead at the developer, Loot Drop, Brenda Romero took to Twitter to announce the fact. She also puts the word out about the development staff and their need for work in the lead-up to Xmas.
Using the competing social outlet, she states, "Sad news. Today, Ghost Recon Commander was cancelled. As a result, we laid off a team of kick-ass developers. If you have openings, ping me."
Ubisoft has also made comment in the usual richly twisted language only ever used by corporations doing their best to say words that won't upset people - well, board members or stock holders:
"Ghost Recon Commander will unfortunately be discontinued because the gameplay mechanics did not resonate with the core gamer audience", someone at the French company told Pocketgamer.
We think it means, "Not enough people liked the game." But who the hell knows?
