So the results of the 2012 Golden Joystick Awards have been announced, and the gaming public have spoken! Bethesda's The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim takes the top gong, Ultimate Game of the Year, and ends up winning the prize for Best RPG and Top Gaming Moment to form a stick-waggling hat trick.
Some drama erupted as Assassin's Creed: Revelations came second to Rocksteady's Batman: Arkham Asylum in Best Action/Adventure - a hotly contested category indeed. In other areas, Minecraft on XBLA won Best Downloadable Game - which must have pleased associating publication Official Xbox Magazine.
In a clash of the titans, EA snatches the award for Best Shooter right away from Activision's nose, as Battlefield 3 bests Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
Perhaps the biggest surprise of the day came from a remotely-controlled Stephen Fry robot. Frybot took the stage to announce the winner of the Best Handheld category, which went to Sony's Uncharted: Golden Abyss. The game is good, but the Frybot... well, we're worried he might short circuit and try to take over the world. It's a good thing Stephen Fry is just so nice.
