Aussies draw the short straw

Our Antipodean cousins will have to wait that little bit longer.

Shortly after Nintendo pacified European gamers regarding the launch of GameCube, now set for May 3, it has been revealed that Australia will have to wait an extra two weeks to get their hands on Nintendo’s new vanity case-alike.

As a PAL region, Australia typically gets its games and hardware releases alongside, if not before, Europe. But the $400Aus (£145) box will not arrive in Australia until May 17. Nintendo fans down under will be none-too pleased, we reckon.

In comparison, PlayStation 2 retails for $529Aus (£190) and Xbox will sell for $649Aus (£235) at launch in March.

With prices like that, Australian gamers really shouldn’t be complaining at all.
